Five Questions with a Community Member

Head of Community Steven Shaw loves to remind us that we are all community.  Inventors, influencers, the staff at QHQ, customers who buy Quirky products, we all play a part in seeing Quirky progress.  This new blog series celebrates community members and gives us the opportunity to get to know them better.  Vanity Fair has the Proust Interview, Inside the Actors Studio has the Pivot Questionnaire, and now we have Five Questions with a Community Member.

Vector is one of the biggest collaborators in our community.  In addition to being the inventor of Hive and Quick Thaw, he has also assisted a number of inventors with renders for their idea submissions. A native of Toms River, NJ Vector has called Brooklyn home for the past 10 years.

What is one interesting or important fact about you the Quirky community should know?

I joined Quirky about a year ago and started creating 3D models in Google SketchUp for my idea submissions. There were a couple other Quirky members who were doing really gorgeous 3D renders of their ideas. I specifically remember loving Simplyinclined‘s renders. The ideas that were developed to this degree seemed better designed and to have a much better chance of being selected for development. They were more thought out and the story of how and why they would exist in the real world was more clearly communicated. It inspired me to invest and learn about several different CAD programs, which became my obsession for several months. During that time I used a multitude of online resources to learn these programs, and I’m now at a point where I use these skills to help other Quirky Members get their ideas across.

What, Where, or Who is your greatest source of inspiration?

New York City is definitely a huge source of inspiration. I’m really inspired by everyday routines and the interactions I have here. I’m constantly thinking of life tweaks.

What are you working on now?

I’m getting really into 3D printing and I’ve been getting prototypes of 3D models. It’s incredible to see an idea become physically tangible. I’ve also started a jewelry line that is all 3D printed out of stainless steel.

If you had a superpower what would it be?

Flying!

What makes you Quirky?

The amount of time I enjoy sitting in front of my computer borders on the bizarre. Its hard to tear myself away from learning and designing.
